Why is SEL important for our youth and what is different about Cristal's approach?

When the world shut down due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, little did we know that our children would be experiencing crushing levels of behavioral and social-emotional issues two years later.

Didactic curriculums telling children what to do can feel preachy. Social-Emotional children’s lessons lacking in fun and interest don’t stick, and as a result, the important messages are being missed.

Missing these critical messages leads to an exponential increase of negative social-emotional and behavioral issues. More than ever, we need greater compassion, acceptance, empathy, respectful communication, and improved life skills. The solution is teaching children valuable life lessons in an entertaining process through playful and powerful storytelling.

By the end of your time with Cristal, your students will learn how to form their own opinions, connect with others beyond the screen, and make better behavioral and life decisions.

Workshop Goals:

  1. Utilization of the book, Hope is a Butterfly, If You Don’t Squish the Caterpillar, to aide in teaching social-emotional learning (SEL) skills through artful storytelling.

  2. Uncover the five components of SEL in a playful and fun way to gain and keep the attention of children so that the messages are understood and implemented.

  3. Create opportunity for children to open up and have heart centered conversations that provoke thought and create long lasting change.
